The students and volunteers mutually choose each other. This website might use some sophisticated economic mechanisms to match them in an efficient manner. We communicate with the students through real-time Internet services(MSN, QQ), land phones, cell phones, e-mail and postal mail. We could possibly, for example, offer free weekly one-on-one English lessons or trained counseling to students through a sponsored cell phone shared by 5 children, with a student possessing the phone on a school day and pass on to another person the next day. Some of us go to the affected schools in person. It then might allow users to enter rankings based on personal preferences. The website might display to each side a table of anonymized personal data of the other side. Each side ranks a subset of individuals on the other side. For example, a student sees a list of volunteer teachers. If the list is too long, the student filters the list by listing, say, teachers who teach math first. The student then chooses which ones are his first, second, third choices, etc. Likewise, the teachers also rank the students. We are discussing a few candidates for the matching arrangement and algorithms. One possibility is that our matching team will compute some "socially efficient" scores and match the students and teachers into pairs. The words "socially efficient" are in quotes because it depends on your point of view. For example, considerations that we take into account include stability (i.e., each pair does not tend to break easily across time, which is especially important for orphans), efficiencies (e.g. roughly speaking, we try to give everyone their best choices if feasible). Since 2005 similar algorithms have been implemented into matching students and schools in NYC and Boston. Step 1 has now been completed using a combination of Nodeprofile/Nodefamily/AutoAssignRoll instead of the profile module.
Some affected schools already promised that they will let us use their pc labs, which are equipped with Internet access.
We spent over a month building connections with officials, kids, schools, volunteers, etc. We got several hundred volunteers and several hundred kids/orphans who have expressed initial interest to participate. We just need the drupal system to be up so they could start entering data there. In fact, the data entry part (now primitively implemented using the profile module) is already working. We can start collecting data anytime while we are improving the system.
Eventually we want to help every single school, a total of 10,000 of them, 7,000 of which collapsed.

四川地震发生后第三天我开发了一个地震寻人的网站(http://familylinks.sc.cn )。之后各大门户都有了专门的寻人的系统以后我就停止更新了。
我的网站得不到推广。而且真正位于地震中的人是很难上网来找资料的。
我很愿意参与这个项目。但是我们需要更多的资源。例如和其他NGO合作。因为我们缺乏的不仅是技术人员,更重要的是专业运营人员。
